(press association tileqbm* ) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 12. Ingenious attempts to obtain money by false pretences were made by David Scrogie at Stratford. He approached a number of tea room proprietors at Stratford and Taumarunui representing that he was arranging Cook's tours and seeking suitable tea rooms to which to take parties. From one proprietor at Stratford he obtained 37s 6d, and from one Taumarunui proprietor 17s 6d. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on each of several charges, the sentences to be cumulative. He is at present serving a term for similar charges at Palmerston North
