WEDNESDAY. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) RECEIVING ALLEGED. James Lindland Anderson, a butcher aged 22, was charged that on or about April 1, 1933, at Christchurch, he received a sports coat, two shirts, eit;ht pairs of socks, and eight ties, of a total value of £3 16s, the property of Charles Thomson Morgan, knowing them to have been dishonestly ob-Chief-Detective W. H. Dunlop asked that the accused be remanded until to-morrow, saying that he had been arrested on the arrival of the Tees from the Chatham Islands on Tuesday evening. , . Accused: I think so. _ The probation officer said the accused was on license and the general position was most unsatisfactory, Chief-Detective Dunlop said the accused and another man had been terrorising the Islands for some time. Small was heard in the Magistrate's Court it was stated that Mr King was living in a house provided for him and his family hv the citizens of Christchurch. Mr King wishes to qualify this. He says that £lO was deposited on the house aI Northcofe from the public subscription and that since taking possession he has been paving rent, assisted for a few weeks only from the money subscribed by the public.
