THE WEATHER

Auckland—A light south-east wind and fine weather prevailed yesterday, but the sky was covered by light, cumulus clouds, and this made conditions cold. The barometer was exceptionally high and was steady all day at 30.45 in. Wellington—Fine weather continued in Wellington yesterday, sunshine being accompanied by passing clouds. A strong northerly wind was blowing. Dunedin —The weather was fine but overcast in Dunedin yesterday. The conditions were cold, the maximum temperature being 42 degrees. The barometer fell several points and registered 30.25 last evening. FORECAST. (From readings taken at 4 p.m.) General situation—An intense anticyclone still covers northern New Zealand; but the pressure is falling in

the south in front of the depression, which is advancing from the western Tasman Sea. . Winds—Freshening northerly winds, reaching gale force at times in parts of the Cook Strait and Foveaux Strait areas. % _ Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough about Cook Strait and Foveaux Strait; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman sea—Moderate to strong north to north-west winds, rather rough to rough seas. Weather—Cloudy in districts with a westerly aspect, with rain developing, extending later to eastern districts. Temperatures mild.
