SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs D. Burnett, who has been staying at her home in Wai-iti road, has returned to Te Aka Station (Hakataramea). I Mrs B. E. Evans, South Canterbury president of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, left for Wellington on Monday to attend the Dominion conference. Commander and Mrs G. W. Morrison (Branscombe street) have moved into a flat in Hampton House, le Cren's terrace. Miss F. Mac Lean (Heriot. Central Otago) is the guest of Mrs Simon MacKenzie ("Otumarama"). Miss Lorna Nicholls, late of Hamilton, who has been appointed first assistant of Craighead Diocesan School, has been spending a few days with Mrs Huddleston ("Cadogan," Sefton street). OLD GIRLS' ASSOCIATION. • An enjoyable tea party was held by I the Timaru Girls' High School Old Girls' Association yesterday afternoon, when opportunity was taken to welcome Miss J. R. Barr, who has just returned from a trip to Australia, and to say good-bye to Miss Claire Morton, who is about to proceed to Australia on holiday. Among those present were Misses Barr, Moreton, Beryl and Cora Stevens, Isa Young, Betty Holdgatc, Betty Williams, Margaret Martin, Claire Palliser. Chrissie Wilson, Belle Morton, Adelaide Allchurch, Mesdames D. S. Kemshed and J. D. Duncan. A machine which, its inventor claims, can measure the strength of love between two persons is to be installed in the Psycho-Technical Institute at Belgrade.
