WEDDING.

COL'PER—ROSS. West Coast residents will be interested in the marriage, celebrated re-1 cently in Holy Trinity Church, j Woodville, by the Rev. G. \V. David-1 .son, of Hinemoa Miri, only child of ] Mr and Mrs Kenneth Alexander Ross, of Wellington, to William Alexander, eldest son of the late Mrs Couper and Mr W A. Couper, of "Waikatoa," Havelock North, Hawke's Bay. The bride is a niece of the late Mr Malcolm Ross, the well-known journalist, and granddaughter of the late Mr J. L. Munson, an old and esteemed resident of Westport. She wore a gown of belladonna lily pink and silver heavy lace, and a veil of the same shade, bordered with hand-made lace, over 100 years old. The veil was held in place by a handsome old comb studded with rubies and inlaid with enamel and gold. A beautiful handwoven wrap of deep cream and silver lace was worn over the wedding gown, and her bouquet was of carnations, daphne, cyclamen, and roses. She also wore the wedding gift from her parents, a ring of diamonds and turquoises. The bride's mother wore a frock of opal blue marocain, patterned with tiny sprays of yellow and pink, a hat of black and white felt, and a heavilycorded black silk coat, which was finished with a sable fur collar. She carried a bouquet of carnations. Mrs Davidson's gown was of black crepe de chine trimmed with white furs, and worn with a posy of violets, and a smart black and white hat. Her bouquet was of violets. The wedding breakfast was held at the vicarage, where Mr and Mrs Davidson entertained the relatives of the bride and bridegroom. The bride's travelling suit was of lime-grey cloth finished with deep cream, and she wore squirrel furs and a grey beaver felt hat. Mr and Mrs Coupcr's home will be "Pinecroft," Otane, Hawke's Bay. GREEN AND GOLD BALL. At the Winter Garden last night the green and sold ball, the annual ball arranged by the Christchurch Technical College Past and Senior Students' Association was held, and was, as in past years, a most successlul and enjoyable function. Music was supplied by Sinbad's band, and during the evening an exhibition of the "threesome" was given by Mr and Mrs Leo Bowden and Miss Gladys Fitzsimmons. Miss F. M. Haworth, president of the association, was chairwoman of the dance committee, the other members of which were Misses Doris Gibbs M. Christian, E. L. Harris, and I. Agassiz, Messrs C. B. Bailey, J. F. Berry, and C. Sanderson (honorary secretary;. Guests of honour were Mr J. M. McEride (vice-principal of the college) and Mrs Mcßride, and Miss M. Higgins (senior mistress). Miss Haworth wore a frock of white crinkled satin plainly made, with inset crossway panels at the hip line, and a small cape to match. Mrs Mcßride wore a frock of black georgette trimmed with bands of black satin. Miss Higgins wore a graceful frock of pirate green georgette trimmed with pin-tucks, and inset with panels of green lace, and a capelet of green lace. Miss Gibbs wore a frock of sapphire blue crinkled crepe, with draped side panel; Miss Harris's frock was of ivory georgette patterned with yellow and green, and Miss Agassiz wore a black georgette frock, trimmed at the hip line with rows of narrow black lace, a shoulder spray of spring flowers and silver leaves, and a black lace coatee.

L'AMITIE CLUB'S DANCE. Members and friends of L'Amitie Club celebrated the third anniversary of its formation by holding a successful dance in the Canberra Hall. Music was supplied by the Bristol orchestra, and Miss G. Stevens played extras. During the evening prizes were won by Miss Kathleen Anderson and Mr F Simpson, Miss M. Hooper and Mr G. L. Shaw, and Mr and Mrs W. Ross. Mr W. Frankland was the master of ceremonies.

TYROLIAN GARDEN CAFE. On the night of August li, patrons of the Tyrolian garden cabaret will walk out of Kilmore street, not into the Caledonian Hall, but in to a beergarden somewhere on the Dolomites Xt win be a "super" beer-garden, lor tneie, up in the arbour, will be two dancers from Vienna, who, later will dance the Blue Danube. On the other side, at a larger table, will be a band of tzigane gipsies, from the Austnan Tyrol, who are waiting for the band to play their traditional dances. Madame, the inimitable concierge, w II be there bustling among the tables, bandying words with those four nabitues, the "stein-cronies," who will presently persuade her to sing with *hem. The little dancer from Vienna is madame's daughter, but her partner comes from further south. The Hikundstiff Sisters, those intrepid mountaineers, have been seen on a nearby mountain, and doubtless will come in later in the evening. Meanwhile there is that other dancer the Austrian . . .who Is about to give her Hungarian solo. Madame finds you a table. You watch for a little while, you dance, you sup. It Is all over too soon, but for one night you have been half-across the world in a Hungarian cafe. The cabaret will be in aid of the Royal Plunket Society.

PLL'NKET BALL AT SCARGILL. I Members of the Scargill-Motunau tub-branch of the Plunket Society held their annual ball in the Scargill Hall on Friday evening. Always the most outstanding social event of the year in the district, the ball was a most enjoyable and successful one. Many visitors were present from Christchurch and from the neighbouring districts. The hall had been decorated for the occasion by the president (Mrs Herbert Acton-Adams) and helpers. The stage had been transformed into a summer garden with artificial flowers and greenery and window-boxes of flowers, and garlands decorated the walls. Dance music was supplied by the Evans-Campbell dance orchestra, and extras were played by Mrs E. Robinson (Waipara) and Messrs W. Hawker and G. A. Greig. Messrs J. Lambie and A. M.
