THE NEW ZEALAND LEGION.

TO TSB CDITOa O* TSB niSB. Sir, —I am afraid that "Legionary," being unable to answer, finds himself compelled to beg the questions I put to his leaders in my previous letter. "Legionary" must know that a medical man, being a scientist, always endeavours to find the cause of the complaint which he wishes to cure, knowing that the cure depends entirely upon the correct diagnosis of the root or roots of the evils. No one but blundering quacks claim to deal with problems, political or otherwise, without doing away first of all with primary causes, and to my idea this New Zealand Legion is another body of political quacks full of platitudes, making claims which they cannot justify. "Legionary" must admit that my question is quite logical and justified, and the fact that I use a pseudonym, which he does himself, does not justify him or his leaders in ignoring a fact upon which depends the success or failure of the task which they claim to be able to perform. That my questions can be answered there is not the slightest doubt, as wc are living in a world of law, in which nothing happens without a cause. I feel justified in asking these New Zealand Legionaries whether they possess that knowledge which is essential to honest social reformers. I hope that my question will receive an answer other legionaries, which "Legionary does not seem qualified to give.— Yours, etc., , , MACHIAVELLI. July 11, 1533.
