CHRISTCHURCH CLUB.

FINAL OF BORTHWICK j VASE. c A. R. BLANK THE WINNER. I in perfect golfing weather on Sat-! urday, at Shirley, A. R. Blank just got home against R. W. Morgan in the final of the Borthwick Vase. The game was close all the way and after the 17th hole the issue was still in doubt. A hooked drive, which ended in the trees by Morgan at the last hole, spoiled his chances and Blank took the hole in a steady 4, and the match, 1 up. Blank started well and with 4, 4, 2 at the first three holes, was two up. This was the biggest lead he estab- r lisned, and a rather fortunate 4 at n Terra Nova to Morgan and a half at j the short ninth, saw Blank only one up at the turn of the round. The j outward journey had taken Blank 3G and his opponent 38. A net 3 at the 10th evened the match; but a birdie three at The Pines and a bogey at Old Nick put Blank once more ahead. Blank's second at Shirley struck the pipe-line and ended in the creek, thus enabling Morgan to draw level once more, Blank took the one-shot loth and a half in 6 at the long hole left him in a commanding position. A succession of bunkers at the next caused him a lot of trouble, and he was forced to pick up after he had played 6, and the match was square on the last tee. Morgan, who drove first hooked his shot into the trees, while Blank played a steady shot straight down the fairway, whence a con&ist-ently-played bogey gave him the hole and the match, 1 up. I A feature of the bogey match also played on Saturday was C. J. Ward's 73. Playing from the 2 mark he had a clear lead from the field with a score of 2 up on bogey, the next best being four all squares. Several matches in the Godby j Trophy were also played during the week, and all the games were remark-1 ably close. The second semi-flnal of j the Campbell Cup was also decided | and in this match L. J. Taylor beat J. D. Hutchison 2 and 1. This leaves I Taylor and H. W. Macfarlane to fight, out the finish of this event. | The results of the various games are j as' follows: — Godby Trophy. j A. L. One would be considered old fashioned in these times if one commenced a story with "Once upon a time there was an Englishman, a Scotchman, and an Irishman, etc." This old method of telling a .story is revived by the fact that last year the winners of the close Amateur Golf Championships of England and Scotland, and the winner of the open Amateur Championship of Ireland each used a North British Golf Ball. -6
