CROSSING TRAGEDY.
FORMAL VERDICT RETURNED. (rRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, July 3. A formal verdict was returned today at the inquest on the four persons killed in the Porirua level-crossing tragedy on May 21. The coroner (Mr Gilbertson) said it was impossible for the driver of the engine (John H. Cornwall) to avoid the accident, and he was in no wise to blame. The flashlights and other warning devices must have beenclearly visible to the car-driver. The victims of the accident were Mrs S. F. Lincoln and her four-year-old daughter, of Rangitikei Line, Palmerston North: Mrs Frances Lena Gaskin, 7 Burke street, Palmerston North, and Miss Maud Enright, who boartled with Mrs Gaskin.
