MAN WITH EXPLOSIVES IN HIS POSSESSION. (TRESS ASSOCIATION TEI.F.GR »V.) WELLINGTON, July 3. Leslie Clifford Arthur Payne pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to two charges of theft and a charge of being unlawfully in possession of explosives. The police stated that he booked a room at a boarding house on June 16, but instead of occupying the room he stole a suit of clothes from a boarder's room, and then went to the Salvation Army Rest Home, where tie stole a blanket. When arrested, some gelignite and detonators were found in his possession. He said he gat them in Auckland to blow open a safe. Detective-Sergeant Revell said that the man had a criminal list dating from 1915, and the police Were investigating a number of offences he was alleged to have committed in other parts of the North Island. Mr E. Page, S.M., sentenced him to six months' imprisonment.
