"Every New Zealander should travel by British lines, and the man or woman who does so is doing a national service," remarked Mr J. J Dougall, president of the Canterbury (N.Z.) branch of the Navy League at its annual meeting last night. He was referring to what he termed the parlous condition of the British mercantile marine, brought about, he said, by the subsidising by foreign governments of their merchant shipping.
