GOVERNOR GENERAL'S RELIEF FUND.

. 0- — GUT FROM MR J. CONNOLLY, M.P. In response to the appeal of the Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) for the relief of distress, Mr J. Connolly, M.P., forwarded the following telegram to his Excellency's secretary yesterday:—"l desire you respectfully to convey to their Excellencies (Lord and Lady Bledisloe) the congratulations and appreciation of the residents of MidCanterbury on the excellent appeal and the practical proof of sympathetic interest which their Excellencies have again shown for those of our people who find it difficult to make provision for themselves and their families at the present time. I am sure a ready response will result, and I desire to give 40 fat. sheep, or their value in cash, and also £ 10, to purchase blankets and warm clothing, yith a request that these he distributed in Mid-Canter-bury."
