CURRENCY SYSTEM.
CRITICISM BY CONSERVATIVE. LONDON, December 3. It wotijd be impossible to devise a more haphazard currency system than that created by the present Government, declared Sir Henry Page Croft (Con.), when reviewing the Empire Industries' Association's share in achieving Imperial cooperation and preference in the past year. When a permanent meat policy, apart from the present emergency action, was being considered, he said, it was hoped that the Government would give thought to dutiea which would be simpler, more effective, and more profitable than the quota system. Lord Hailaham vigorously defended the Ottawa Agreement, including the Dominions' decisions. Probably every tariff tribunal, ha said, was inclined to bo biased in favour of its own country, but thoae of Canada and Australia were as likely to make sound and just recommendations as Britain's tribunal.
