SANDERS CUP.

TWO CHALLENGES RECEIVED. WELLINGTON'S ATTITUDE. The ('atitorbury Yachting and Power Boat Association, met hist evening. Present: Messrs W. 11. Nicholson (president), G. R. Curtis, J. T. Hobhs, M. Scott, P. Morrison, A. T. llound, A. 0. Wilcox, A. 0. Barney, W. Wood, W. A. Young, F. Friedman, W. Browne, and 1. Treleaven (lion, tary)A discission arose following a letter, from tho Wellington Yachting Association, protesting against tho new typo of boat, as emanating from Auckland, and filtering a elm lie ago for tho Sanders Cup, on condition that only tho old .llomt typo of boat should bo eligible. Tho chairman said it was a matter for regret that Wellington alono of all tho associations in. the Dominion had taken up tho attitude it hail. A conditional challenge from Wellington could not bo accepted. Tho Dominion conference, ho thought, could not alter tho conditions for tho coming race. The conference could only deal with tho race of tho following year. It appeared that both parties were perfectly right from their individual points of view. If Wellington took part in the race and Auckland won with tho now typo of boat, Wellington might sav that they were tho real winners of tho cup. That was why the conditional challenge could not be accepted. A member: I? it not rather unsporting for Wellington to take tip this attitude P Mr ' Curtis said that if Auckland sailed the new type of boat, Wellington would not take part.

Mr Scott said he thought that Canterbury should have supported Wellington. - Canterbury should admit tliey wero wrong.

Tho chairman disagreed, stating that it was Canterbury's own suggestion that both types of boats should be allowed to enter for this Sanders Cup race, and that decision, supported bv ail but Wellington, must bo upheld. Tho next race after this coming one was a matter to be threshed out by the conference.

Mr Scott _ pointed out that should Auckland withdraw the new type of boat., tho matter would bo settled. Mr Hobhs (Canterbury) had withdrawn his new type of boat. flic let-tor wa-s received, as was ,a letter from a member of tho Wellington Association on the same matter.

Stewart Island and Southland Challenges. I'iie sueivtary said that two Sanders Cup challenges had been received from Southland, one from the Stewart Island Yachting Club and one from a body recently '"nrmed by two Southland clubs, calling themselves tho Southland Association. Tho chairman pointed out that each challenge must come through the provincial association, and tho matter would have to bo settled between the Stewart Island Club and tho new association. It was decided to ask that the steel moulds, for measuring Sanders Cup beats, should be sent to Canterbury before the date of tho closing of entries for the race. Mr Curtis said he thought, thai, the Canterbury Association should have ciehnitc policies for the Dominion conference on tho 18-fcot boats, as sponspored by Otago, and also on the proposal to form a New Zealand Yachting Association. It was liointod out that the conference v/onld probably appoint a committee to go thoroughly into tho matter ( >,f the typo of boat suggested by Qi :i ■'<->. The Dominion Council's proposal was referred to n sub-onnmittoe. ft was decided to ask the New Brighton Power-Boat Club for the use oi its rules to govern motor-boat- events at the Sanders Cup regatta.
