The Atlantic Shipping Conference deeiilcil not to continue fully the heavy :s announced on April 15th, hut agreed to a 6 per cent, increase in first and second-class fares. The reduced fi -es had failed materially to increAßO passenger traffic, causing several members of the conference to threaten to rCiSign. The decision is generally acceptable. Seventeen steamers of thfe tftl&lid SGa service are \tied up by a determined seamen's strike, essential parts of the engines and equipment having been removed. preventing the company fr6m operating by employing strike-breakers.
