MOTOR UNION.

THE LAKE WAKATIPU ROAD

Tho proposed road from Kingston to Queenstown along the shore of Lake Wakatipu was briefly discussed at last night's meeting of tho South Islan-. Motor Union. Mr F. W. Johnston piosided. A letter froitj the Southland Motor Association stated that practically the only opposition to the road came from , run-holders who were large ratepayers to the Lake County. As for the effect on the Government steamer service, the annual loss at present was about £4OOO. If tho road went through there would be a further loss on the steamer run of a few hundreds of pounds a year, at present collected for the transport of cars and for passenger fares. So far about £33,000 had been spent in j completing about two-thirds of the s road, which, as it was at present, was a I glaring example of bad administration, for if it had not been intended to complete it. it should never have been | started. ■ i Tt was deeided, as the union had . i tilrcadv stated its attitude, to refer the » letter back to the Southland associa- ■ tion.
