COMMUNITY SINGING.
AN ENTHUSIASTIC AUDIENCE. The collection at the community singing in tho Civic Theatre yesterdav realised £27. The theatre was filled, and the large audience joined enthusiastically in the singing. The Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) read a number of letters of appreciation, in many of which girts ana contributions were enclosed, lue Governor-General (Lord Bledisloej, s£id Mr auinvan, had, in the course of the morning, expressed to h;m his congratulations to the people of Christchurch for the manner in which they had tackled the organisation of rebel in the City, and the way in which appeals for their support had been responded to The conductor of the singing yesterday was Mr A. W. Brown, with L>r, F. C. A'Conrt at the piano. A letter was' received from Mr VV. H Oixou, who is«at present in hospital expressing regret that he would be wable to conduct future performances
