REVOLT IN MADRID

STATE OFFICES RAIDED. ARTILLERY BRIGADE SUPPORTS INSURGENTS. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received August 11th, 12.20 a.m.) MADKID, August 10. A Monarchist revolt broke out in the capital at dawn, but the Government's fore-knowledge of the movement minimised the seriousness of the outbreak. An artillery brigade supported the insurgents. Many arrests, including the sous of former members of the nobility, have been made. The rebels entered the office of the Ministry of Communications and also raided the War Office, but were driven out. Communications abroad were cut off but have sinco been re-established. Several robels were killed and others were injured. Disorders also threaten elsewhere. Tho Minister for the Interior announces that the situation throughout the country is under control. The War Office was the principal centre of the disturbance, tho police and Civil Guards ejecting the raiders after much firing from both sides. Tho attackers fied, leaving several dead and wounded. Tho police suffered several casualties. The firing awakened the whole city in the early hours of the morning, and the confusion was followed by Bepublican demonstrations demanding death for tho leaders of the insurrection. The Minister for the Interior declares that the leaders received large sums to foment agitation and had been supported by several generals and retired army officers. The revolt coincides With the issue of warrants for the arrest of Alfonso and several noblemen, former railway officials, and a British contractor, following the revelations of a Commission of Enquiry into railway concessions.
