RANGIORA. Playing in the second round of the Friendly Societies' card tournament on Tuesday night ltangiora Oddfellows (504 points) beat Ohoka Oddfellows (462), and ltangiora Druids (445) beat Woodend Oddfellows (411). KAIKOURA. At the fortnightly meeting of the ' Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge the N.G., Bro. A. Barker, presided. Sick pay clue to several members and a maternity claim of £4 were passed lor payment. One candidate was proposed for membership. On September 17th the district omcers will visit the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge, in conjunction with the judges of the efficiency competition. GUST. In honour of her approaching marriage, Miss Rene Mather was entertained at the residence of Mrs Kennedy. During the afternoon piano solos were given by Misses is. Fitagibbon and K. At a social, hejd in the North Loburn Hall, the prize-winners were Miss Siddons (Whiterock) and Mr J. Bennett. The fortnightly social, under the auspices of the Loburn School Commit-. tee, was held in the Coronation Hall. The winners of the competitions were Misses Nancy Henry and Alice Dawson, and Messrs T. Dawson and G. Chambers. WOODEND. The funeral of Mrs Margaret Chinnery took placo at the Kaiapoi Cemetery, and was largely attended. The Rev. G. W. T. Hercus officiated at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs Clifford Crawford (Ashburton), W. Johnsort (Woodend), W. Turner (Christchurch) and J. McClintock (New Brighton). Among the wreaths sent were those from Mr and Mrs R. Wil« kie (Taihape), W. Johnson and family (Woodend), Mr and Mrs Gillman (Waikuku), Mr and .Mrs Todd.(Woodend), Mr and Mrs Brown and family (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs J. Crawford and family, and others. SOUTHBRIDGE. The monthly meeting of the Southbridge Town Board was presided over by Commissioner J. H. Hampton. It was decided to have several footpaths levelled and coated with fine gravel, and to culvert a water-race crossing at the intersection of Broad and Brook streets. The Health Inspector's report stated that there had been no cases of notifiable infectious diseases in. Southbridge during the last month. It was decided to rectify an anomalous ! position in regard to water-race I charges mentioned by Cmr. W. Complaint was made concerning the inconvenience suffered by business men and farmers through the absence of an afternoon mail service to Christchurch. It was pointed out that letters posted after 10.30 in the morning were not dispatched until the following; day. The Board decided, by unanimous resolution, to make representations to the Postal Department with a view to having an outward mail dispatched by the afternoon bus service nt four o'clock. PUAHA. At the sehool committee's euchre tournament and dance prizes were won by Mrs J. Wright and Mr W. Stanbury. Consolation prizes were awarded Miss N. Pigeon and Mr M. Karatai. Mrs E. E. V. Vanstone was tko hostess. Music was supplied by MrsL. Radford, Miss Mould. Miss M. Hartz, Mr L. Humphries, and Mr M. Karatai. Mr A. F. Mould was M.C.
