PERSONAL. (ariClXt. TO THE TRESS-) GEEYMOUTH, August 9. Mr W. Wilson, manager of the Hokitika Savings Bank, left yesterday on a visit to Christchurch. Miss M. Spiers, accompanied by Mrs \V. Inglis (Kumara), left yesterday on a visit to Christchurch. Mr W. Bustard, who has been visiting his mother in Greyinouth, returned yesterday to Wanganui. Mr and Mrs W. Stewart (Kumara) left yesterdoy on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mr Harold, Prescott left to-day for Christchurch,' where he will take part in tho production of " Caractacus" by tho Christchurch Musical Society. | Juvenile Court. A sitting of tho Juvenile Court was held yesterday, Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., presiding. Three boys were admonished and discharged for the theft of a quantity of plush at Boddytown. It was stated that the plush had been returned to the owner. Threo boys were also admonished and discharged for assaulting another boy at Blake town. Unemployment Committee. The Hokitika Borough Council has decided to ask the Unemployment Committee to relievo the Town Clerk of the secretarial duties of the committee, which ho has attended to since its inception. Hospital Board. The Iter. H. J. W. Knights has been appointed to represent the Hokitika Borough Council on tho Westland Hospital Board, in succession to Mr J. J. Bree2e. Golf. In the Orkney Cup competition played at the Greymouth Golf Club's links at Omoto, Meldrum beat Machu, Clay beat Thorpy, Shallcrass beat Clay, P. Fogarty beat Kettle, D. Fogarty beat Fogarty, Hill beat Smyth, Buchanan beat Brosnan, Menzios beat McCarthy. In the Four Horsemen Cup matches, Caulton beat McCallura, James beat McKnne, Nightingale beat Warnes, Holmes beat Eollinson. In the Ladies' Eclectic match, the best cards returned on Sunday were by Mrs Fleming, net 72, and Miss Carter, net 7G. Magistrate's Court. A sitting of the Greymouth Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., presiding. James Findlay, aged 23, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months, for attempting to commit suicide at Bunanga on August 6th. James Dunn, a motor-driver at Kapahoe, was fined £1 and costs 12s for failing to report an accident. Isaac Kitchin was convicted and fined £2 and costs for dangerous driving of a ;uotor vehicle. For negligent driving, ho was convicted and discharged. Cobden Town Board. The Cobden Town Board met last evening, the chairman, Commr. T. H. Jones, presiding. Tho Grey Hospital notified the Board of the levy payable for the current year, which was £4O increase on that of last year. Coomr. Turley, the Board's representative on tho Grey Hospital Board, explained that tho increased levies on local bodies had been caused through the heavy calls on the Hospital Board for charita'blo aid. The levy was approved. The Cobden Fire Brigade advised the Board that it was desirous of purchasing a motor engino to replace the present manual engine, and asked the Board to meet tho brigade and discuss the proposal. It was decided to hold tho mutter over until the new Board had been elocted. The Commissioner of Transport wroto asking tho Board's opinion regarding tho remission of heavy traffic fees on farmers' vehicles. The Board did not favour farmers being exempted, and passed a motion accordingly.
