NORTH CANTERBURY.

RANGIORA. The General Committee of the Rimgiora Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club met on Monday evening, Mr C. H. Hargreaves presiding. The chairman made reference to the death of Messrs F. Horrell and J. Judson, members of the bowling section, and a motion of sympathy with their families was passed. The treasure! submitted an interim balance-sheet loi the past 14 months' working ot tne club, the date of the annual meeting being changed from May. At a meeting of the Kaiapoi Beautifying Association, held on Monday evening, the president, Mr H. W. Trousselot presided. It was decided to hold the annual carnival, in aid oi the association's funds, in the borough hall grounds, Hilton street, in March, 1933. At about 8.30 a.m. yesterday a hie occurred at the residence of Captain W. T. Tavlor, Sewell street, Kaiapoi. The fire had a good hold when the brigade arrived, and the house, one of the oldest in Kaiapoi, with the contents, except some kitchen furniture, was practically destroyed. Tree planting operations were carried out by the boys and girls of the lower school on Monday under the supervision of members of the committee and teaching staff. It was found that the trees planted last year were well established and growing strongly. HORNBY. .A social was held at the Parish Hall, Hornby, on Monday evening, when the women of the English Church Guild invited members and friends. Games were enjoyed, the prize-winners being Mrs Norman Davis, Mr Walter Davis, Mrs Morris, and Mr W. Dawson. The match, women versus men, resulted in the women winning by 68 points. SOUTH MALVERN. In honour of the coming of age of their daughter Marjorie Mr and Mrs G. T. Pearce, Coalgate, entertained a number of friends at their residence. The evening was spent in games, interspersed with musical items contributed by Mrs Smith, Miss G Rose (Christchurch), Misses Havill and Doughty, and Mr F. Bull. The annual meeting ol the ulenfcunnel Spring Flower Show Committee was held recently. There were present : —Mesdames John Deans, J. G. 'Weastell, E. Charles. W. Gilmour, G. D. Marsh, Misses A. Weastell and M. Marsh, and Messrs W. Gilmour, James Deans, E. Charles, L. A. Marshall and S. Smith. It was decided to hold the flower show on October Ist. Mr W. Gilmour was elected chairman, and on the resignation of Miss A. Weastell as secretary, it was decided to appoint Miss I. Gilmour to fill the vacancy. HORORATA. On Monday and yesterday morning frosts of l& degrees were recorded at Hororats. The Hororata Primary School girls hockey team journeyed to Darneld to play a friendly game with the local team. Darfield won by four goals to one. __________
