Playing the Eenmore Country team to-day in fine weather, the New hockey team outclassed their opponents, winning by 10 goals to 2. The New Zealand forwards were fast and tricky. Turbitt, Anthony, and Sogers astonished the local players and Spiers was great in defence. New Zealand scorers were: Anthony (4), Turbitt (4), Munro (1), and Wellbourne (1) A large crowd witnessed the match. , INTER STATE CARNIVAL MATCHES IN SYDNEY. (Received August Bth, 11.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 8. At the inter-State hockey carnival today Queensland defeated South Australia by 8 goals to 4. Queensland's combination was much better than that of their opponents. New South Wales defeated Westers Australia by 2 goals to 1. A DRAWN GAME. (raasa association tkjsgzau.) MASTERTON, August ?. lr. a fas>t and interesting game with little between the two sides, the 'Wellington hockey team opened its tour to-day, the match resulting in a draw, 8-all. Wairarapa led till two minutes before time, when the visitors equalised. The scorers for Wellington were Jeromson (2) and Fergusson, and for Wairarapa Broods. Fisher, and Smith.
