INDIAN COMMUNAL PROBLEM.
_—* STUDY BY MR MACDONALB. PROSPECT OF SBTTLEMENT. (bbxtisb omau WIUUCSS.) (Received August 7th, 5.5 p.m.)' RUGBY, August 6. Mr Ramsay Mac Donald, accompanied bv Lord Londonderry. (Secretary of Stat© for Air) left London by air today en route for Lossiemouth, where the Prime Minister will resume his holiday, which was interrupted in order to-jdsit London and attend a Cabinet meeting. It is probable that while in Scotland Mr Mao Donald will resume the study of the Indian communal problem, which occupied his attention before his short return to London. While engaged on this subject, tie Prime Minister has been kept fully acquainted throughout with the detailed views of the Government pt "The Times" says: "There has been the closest interchange of views and suggestions between "Whitehall and Simla, with the result that the proposals for a provisional settlement which were considered by Cabinet vesterday, are not likely to require any prolonged scrutiny by the Government of India. There is reason tjp believe that they had a favourable reception, and it may be anticipated that an announcement of the terms can be made bv the Government here and by the Viceroy in India before the end of the month." . . After stating that it is the earnest desire- of the Government to initiate and carrv legislation next vear,. and that the Round-Table Conference method will be continued, "The Times" adds: "It may be anticipated that the third and final conference, with a necessarily limited personnel, can he assembled in London early in w autumn." >
