At the mechanieal hare enquiry today, William Matthewa explained his efforts to obtain a mechanical hare license for Broken Hill. The member for tho district, Mr Horsington, sent him to Swindell, who was advising the Government, on the issue of licenses. Swindell duly told Matthews he would have to pay something into the Labour Party's lighting fund, and suggested £2OOO. He also suggested that live hundred shares each should be given to Mr Horsington and to Mr Davidson, another Parliamentarian. Later, Matthews saw Swindell, who told him he had seen Mr Mark Gosling, who was then Chief Secretary, and Mr Horsington, and that they stood pat for £2OOQ and 1000 shares. Jack Munro, recalled, said the potential value of the 12,000 Australian Coursing Company shares and 5000' Greyhound Coursing Association shares, which were given to Swindell, was about £40,000. TRAIN DERAILED. MISHAP NEAR NEWCASTLE. (Eecbived July 29th, 10.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 29.' A train derailment occurred at Fassifern, in the vicinity of Newcastle, owing to a broken rail. Five passenger coaches of the North Coast Mail, bound for Sydney, left the rails and ploughed up the permanent way, throwing ' the passengers off their seats and causing alarm. The mishap would probably have been attended by Berious consequences had not the driver slowed down just befori, at a point where repairs to a Culvert were under way. No one was injured. CONVICTED MURDERER. MOXLEY REQUESTS DEATH PENALTY. SYDNEY, July 29. William Moxley, Sentenced to death for the murder of Frank Wilkinson and Dorothy Denzel (whom he shot at point-hlank range, burying the bodies in a shallow grave), has written to the Minister of Justice, Mr I>. O. Martin, asking, that the sentence be carried out. Cabinet decides Moxley's fate next week. His action is stated to be without precedent in the State. The last hanging in New South Wales was in 1924.
