CHILDREN'S FANCY DRESS DANCE.

SUMNER-REDCLIFF'S PLUNKET SOCIETY. A children's fancy dress dance, organised by the Sunmer-Eedcliffs branch of the Plunket Society, was held last evening in the Sumner Town Hall. Dance music was supplied by a radio gramophone lent by Mrs C. S. Booth. During the evening the staff of the Sumner District High School were thanked for their assistance by Mr 12. E. Claydon. Mesdaines H. It. Smith and J. W. Ncvin were the judges of the costumes. The prizes awarded wero as follows: Under Eleven—Girls: Most original, Rita Ehind (Winter Sports). BeaVCB (S °" 88 Peasant). KANEKE CLUB. Miss Bridgmaii was hostess at the last evening party of the Kaneke Clu , when a most enjoyable time was spent. Competitions were won by Messrs Collins, Tompkins, and Forrester. Miss Ida Cooper contributed elocutionary Supper was provided by Mrs Orchard and helpers. A play, "Thirty Minutes in a Street," created a great deal of amusenK'nt, the parts being taken by Mesdaines Kent, Magimiess, and Millar, M sses Blackham, Bridgrnan, Bunker, Childe, Collins, Forrester, Gilpin, Moore, Tompkins, and Wright. A one-act play, "The Subjection of Kezia," in whi,ch Misses Freeman and Mesdames Orchard and Maginness tpok the parts, concluded the entertainment.

BALL AT SOUTHBRIDGE. The popoularity of the Southbridgc Football Club's annual ball was shown on Thursday evening, when the attendance was not far short of the record established two years ago. The members of the club combined to ensure tho comfort of the guests. The hall decorations were carried out by members of tho D.I.C. staff (Chriatchurch). Streamers were arranged to give a rainbow effect, combined with blue and amber streamers over the electric lights. In tho supper room, the club's colours, blue and white, predominated. Mr A. Carroll (president of the club) and Miss Carroll led the grand march. Dance music was supplied by Miss Alary Nolan's orchestra (Christchurcli). Extras were played by Misses N. and J. Beamslev and'T. Cornelius, and Dr. E. W. Hunt. Messrs J. Howatson, G. Burt, S. McCartin, and S. lnwood shared the duties of M.C. A lucky spot waltz was won by Mrs F. Carjter and Mr H. G. Hubbard. During an interval, the president of the club handed to Mr A. Fineham, a member of the first grade team, the Jock Patterson Memorial Cup, awarded annually to the most useful member of the club.
