Mr and Mrs R. Muschauip, who liavc been visiting the West' Coast, left yesterday for Christchureh. Bush Fires. -For the past week bush fires have been burning all over the district. At Runanga some appreh snsion was felt by those, living on the Runanga-Dunollie Railway Reserve, where the lire was bad on Wednesday, and a number of men were engaged from an early hour in tWb morning beating it out. The occupants of several houses in the locality moved their belongings to safety, fearing the fire would extend to their residences. Tho danger was averted by a number of workers who fought the llames. Yesterday evening the fire brigade was called out to quell a fire in the vicinity of the borough pumping engineer's residence in Onioto road. This was effected before any damage occurred. • - Golf. The final of the Greymouth Golf Club's junior men's championship was played at the Omoto links yosterday, when Warnes defeated McCallum on tho last green by a putt. Warnes was 1 up on the first round, aud at the thirtyfourth hole McCallum was dormie 2. Hockey. In the Westland competition of the Hockey Association, Mawhera leads with 14 points, Hokitika is next with 10, and Rover A third with 6 points. Playing on Wednesday at Hokitika, 'Rovers A beat Kokatahi by 11 goals to nil, hitting in fine style aud keeping the ball moving throughout the game. Tho scorers were Misses D. Stopforth (3), T[. Ridland (3), Mrs Butland (3), and Jft. Ward and 0. Staplcton one each.
