LIQUOR LAW FLOUTED.
AUSTRALIAN TOURIST'S OPINION. NEW YORK, Juno 21. "I have been much struck by the increase in anti-Prohibition sentiment in the United States since my last visit," said Mr W. J. Schutt. formerly a Supreme Court Judge in Melbourne. "The open violations of the liquor laws are appalling. I have received by post bootleggers'' price-lists and their telephone numbers. The flouting of the law reflects public opinion. Prohibition is responsible for much lawlessness, and is the genesis of gangsterdom, with its swollen fortunes. "The United States Supreme Court is a wonderful judicial body, but the lower Courts are venal, because the Judges are elected instead of being appointed as in _ Australia. Consequently, they are 'influenced by political considerations."
