Silver Ring has been placed in commission by R. W. King to bo got ready to leave for Sydney towards the end of July. G. Humphries, who piloted Uim in his four classic successes this *easun, has arranged to go to Sydney to do the riding. At Wingatui To-day. The weather promises to be fine i'or to day's racing at Wingatui. The track •fill be much .improved but still holding. For the opening event, the Forbury Steeplechase, French Fleet will probably be a short priced favourite. A useful field of hacks will parade in rhe Silverstream Handicap, and the favourites will likely be the Colonel Cygnus-Traylavah bracket, and First Song. Tho principal flat event the Birthday Handicap, appears to be very open, and <«e of the best races at the Mooting -hould be staged. All of the field can be said to have excellent chances, and the public may extend most patronage to Fast Passage, Water Power, and Salmo Salar. Morena has gone up a stono in the Otago Hurdles for his first day's win, but should still be capable of having the field in trouble. Membo is liable to improvement and Antrim Boy may do better on this occasion. These three will probably be supported in the order named. Master Anomaly, Fair Weather, and Inevitablo comprise a trio likely to take a prominent part in the decision of the Wairongoa Handicap. Snowfall will be produced in the Wingatui Steeplechase, and in spite of this being his first race over country this winter, he is capable of settling the weak opposition. The public, however, will prefer moro seasoned candidates. TTmtali, Calham, and Deportment will dispute favouritism. There will be 'some newcomers in the Janefield Hack 'Handicap, and investors will have a difficult task. Last March, Monastic, and Niggerhead may bo in most demand.

For the concluding event, the Invermay Handicap, "Water Power, if reserved, Bascal, and Taboo make the strongest appeal. Canterbury Jockey Club.

The new committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club held its first meeting on Wednesday.

Mr G. Gould was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. The application of the Amberiey and Hororata Racing Clubs and the Christchurch Hunt Club for permission to nse the.,Biccarton Racecourse for a combined race meeting on July 23rd was granted. It was decided to mate no change in the admission charges for the Grand National Meeting. It was agreed not to introduce the five shilling totalisator at the Grand National Meeting. It was decided to lodge an objection to the Auckland Racing Club's proposed change, of dates for the Spring Meeting. Chokebore Team.

Straightcourse and Fast Passage were galloped yesterday at WingatuL in company with Hounslow. The two last-named acted well in the going, but Straightcourse made a poor showing, and oo this account was withdrawn from to-day's engagement. Ho will now be kept for the mile race to-mor-row, but will not be started if there is any further unfavourable change in tho track conditions. Fast Passage will be ridden to-day by A. Eastwood, who will also have the mount on Master Anomaly. Doubtful Tactics. Winsome Hind was set a severe task in the Winter Handicap at Wingatui on Wednosday by being rushed to the front three furlongs from home. The general opinion was that she niado her run too soon, and' would have done better if she had been more patiently handled. Biding Engagements. Niggerhead will be ridden to-day by G Barr, who will claim & five pound apprentice allowance. His stablemate, Kascal, will have the services in the eoacluding event of G. Humphries, provided Bational 11. is not reserved. Mr Thorpy has Miss Mercia also engaged in that race, And may elect to start Bational 11. in his earlier engagement. At Oxnoto To-day. Injured on Arrival. S. A. Eagsjn arrived from Blenheim with Wall on Wednesday, but in the process of unloading the trotter had his near hind leg injured. On the track vesterday morning Wah was feel- i ing the effects of the injury, and he did not hit out in anything like his usual free style, so his prospect# at the j meeting may bo impaired. j Biders in Saddle Event. As most 'of the horses racing to-day had their final work-outs on Wodnesday the tracks were quiet yesterday morning, few fast trials being recorded. An interesting piece of work was accomplished by Country King and Wrecker. The former, a candidate in to-day's saddle race, ridden by J. Fraser, trailed Wrecker from the mile and a quarter post for seven furlongs, when he ran up to his rival. Wrecker, however, finished too well for the saddle horse, who completed the last mile of the journey in 2min 10 3-ssee, after taking lmin ssec for the first half of tho last mile. He could not have done any better. In Forward Order. Belinda, who takes a groat deal of work to bring her to her best, was worked over a mile and a half in company with Symmetry. She was going very easily at the finish of her task, where she was in front of Symmetry, to whom she conceded two seconds | start, recording 3min 22see for the distance, the first mile taking 2min 16 1-asee. Both these mares are in their best order. Trotted Well. Giving a slight start to Peter Fashion, Todd Bingen wa3 going the better in front at the end of a mile and a half run in 3min 32sec. The Hope-trained horse trotted in faultless style, but he will find the company he meets at headquarters much superior to that in which he has done his earlier racing. Another member of the same team in Travis was given several circuits of good strong work, but he was not out to make time. First Appearance. Great Loeanda, who will be making his first appearance in a raco at tho Greymouth Meeting to-day, is a three-year-old gelding by Brent Loeanda from a Harold Dillon mare, and he is trained at New Brighton by A. E. Bussell. In Bare Form. Huon Voyage has been showing to such advantage in his track efforts of late that he promises to play an important part in any races in which he is started at the Canterbury Park Meeting. To-day ho is set to give away a long start in the trotters' race, but it will not surprise if ho makes his presence very much felt. He can also muster up speed good enough over short courses to be considered even amongst the smart field of pacers he is due to meet in the mile race. Sale on Monday. On Monday, at 1 p.m.. at "Santa Rosa" Farm, Halswell, Messrs Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., will conduct a sale of the comploto interests of Mr A. Hendriksen's trotting stock, gear, etc. Included in the catalogue aro the brood xrjarea Una Dillon, Wee Audubon, a Galindo-Sound Sense mare, tho dam of tho fine trotter Trampfast, Worthy Girl, Puningu, and Directwood. The young stock is comprised of three Beal Guy colts, a Beal Guy and a Nelson Derby gelding, and a Sonoma Harvester filly. Together with the above the imported stallions Beal Guy and Truman Direct will go under the hammer. Beal Guy is a proved sire, but the stock of Truman Direct have yet to race, his oldest stock being rising yearlings. They should have pace when they reach the tracks, for they are representatives of the two most famous pacing lines, the Direct and Hal strains. These youngsters are fine advertisements for their sire, who is bound to take a high placo at the stud in New Zealand. Trains for Ashburton. On Saturday, June 11th, a special train (steam heated) conveying passengers for the Ashburton Trotting Baces will yeave Christchurch at 9.15 a.m., and arrive Ashburton Bacecourse at 10.52 a.m. The return train leaves

Ashburton Eacecourse at 4.40 p.m. and arrives Christchurch. at 6.15 p.m.

A fast special horse train will leave Christchurch. at 7.'JO a.m. on June lltli. It will lift horses for Ashburton Saleyards Siding if required, at Addington, Soekburn, Templelon, Bolleston, and Dunsandel. The return horso train will leave Ashburton Saleyards Siding at 5.0 p.m. It will take horses returning from the Races for all stations. Passenger accommodation for attendants will be provided on both horse trains. Horses by these trains will be charged ordinarv rates to and from Ashburton Saleyards Siding. The special horse train has been scheduled at express speed in order_ to make the departure time from Christchurch as late as possible, and if owners will load their horses promptly a fast run should result. The unloading and reloading of racehorses at the Siding near the Eacecourse is an added convenience this year. TROTTING STUD. DISPERSAL SALE. H. CANTERBURY PARK T.C. OPENING DAY'S PROGRAMME. The Canterbury Park T.C. will open us Winter Meeting at Addington today. With one exception the fields have all filled well, and the material on hand is perhaps better than any that has ■ been engaged at a Winter Meeting over a long' period. Consequent upon the spell of dry, frosty weather the race-track is in excellent; order, and taking a line through the times that have been registered in recent training work, iter© should be some very fast-run races to-day. Seldom has a race created inoro interest than the ivmg George Handicap has done since nominations were taken, and it would bo difficult to name a horso in the event which has not a respectable chance. The majority of tho field appear to hold bright prospects, and a widely-distributed pool should be tho result. The programme has been so arranged that with the exception of the interval between the second and third events which is 45 minutes, races will be decided at 40-minute intervals, the last race being timed for 4.u p.m., and the club has a reputation for punctuality. An added attraction will bo a two-year-old parade, which will be bold immediately after the third race is decided. Entry for this event is confined to youngsters engaged in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, to be decided next week. Ot the front division, Fairyland and Modern Girl make most appeal, and of the two Modern Girl, despite her poor Oamaru performances, should do the better on the dry track. First Wrack on 12yds is likely to play a prominent part in tho decision, but Modern Girl would appear to lioid her safe at the handicap. Edith Voyage reads best of the remainder. Mftdorn Girl, First Wrack, and Fairyland may finish in the places.

A winner tho lost time out, Symmetry is likely to receive solid support in tlio Jiarewood Handicap. Aristotle is a much-improved pacer, and providing he begins well he should have a say in tho final argument. Prim-ess 'J'hoa, although also doubtful at the harrier, is in excellent form at present, and will have to be considered, while Colorado's recent form points to his chances. Nimbus from the buck mark cannot be discarded, and his main difficulty may be the size or tho field in front of him. When final .selections arc made, the dinnets of Symmetry. Colorado, and Nimbus mfiy bo preferred.

Great Logan has never looked better than ho does stii present, aud although he lias never been considered very favourably fts ;i stayer, lie is so well now that lie may see the journey out to advantage. Impromptu went 4min 22 3-ssee at Forbury Park last month in running second to Hollo, and although his bhowing at Oaiuaru a week later was only mediocre, the track was not suited to him. Since then, no horse has pleased j more in training work, and it is doubtful if Impromptu has ever leun better. He will disappoint many if he is not one of tho first to pass tho judge. Second to ltoyal Silk and second to Batin King in the Auckland Cup and tho Easter Handicap respectively, Muriel de Oro has the right form to recommend her, and, further, she i.; at the top of her form. Slio should I ace most prominently. Golden ]\>drt» iota a puzzle. He is capable of winning, but he has on previous occasions Jet his party down. It cannot be said, however, that lie has ever .beforu worked with so much brilliance and freedom. A close second to Nelson's Victory in his last start at Oamaru, ho has form in his favour. C. iS. Donald has three representatives in Pluto, Lindbergh, :ind Carmel. Pluto does not appeal, Lindbergh has no recent form, and Carmol has been eot too severe a handicap. Warplane'fs claim is nofc impressive, and Linkman, although showing a partial return to form, cannot be lancied. Red Shadow is a most consistent performer, but ho lias not proved a very good two milo proposition, and his chances must depend largely on how the race is run. There are two or three who may take preference. There is no doubt about Hollo's speed and stamina, but ho is most uncertain from the mark and from 36yds behind his task is made doubly difficult. His performance at Forburv Park the last time lie started, winning in 4mi« 20sec, was remarkalne, and with a little luck he will prove troublesome* at the finish. At Forbury he beat Impromptu a length when giving him Wo seconds' start. To-day lie concedes Impromptu three seconds, and. taking the subsequent improvement of the last-named into consideration. Impromptu may this time finish in front. In what should provide a most interesting contest, Impromptu, should be a place-filler at the finish, and Muriel de Oro and Golden Pedro look the best of the others 1.85 p-m.-T----EVSVATIQN HANDICAP,

The smallest field of the day is that "in the Elevation Handicap for uiihoppled trotters, but there is great material on baud to make a good race of it. The scratch horses, Dark McKinney and Wah, cannot be seriously considered. Gay Paree, Biddy Parrish, and Todd Louzia are a formidable trio. The lirst-named two have acquitted themselves in most brilliant fashion in their training work, but there is just a doubt about both in the early stages of a race. _ Todd Louzia in more certain in his gait. Even from 141 yds, Huon Voyage cannot be left out* of calculations, and the slightest mistake on tho part of those near the front will leave him within striking distance. War Paint was responsible for a, brilliant track effort on Wednesday morning, which drew attention to her prospects. She is a fine stayer. Bracken is approaching her ocst form, and sho may bo expected to race well, but public opinion may bo in favour of Wilbur White, Mountain Ore, and War Paint.

He did not race well at Oamaru, but he will be much better suited by present track conditions. A repetition of the speed he showed at Ashburton in filling second place to Avrmont Chimes will make him very difficult to dispose of. If he makes a mistake at tho start Belinda should make matters most interesting for him, as the mare is buck to her best form again. Brentmay prove best of the front horses, and Cranleigh looks tho best of those nearer the back, but tho public choico may be Gold Country, Belinda, and Brentlight.

Gold Tinge is likely to bo well supported in the Telegraph Handicap as the result of tho excellent form she showed when last raced at Addington. Nona Bingen will appreciate tho distance, and she is usually seen at her best, on a last track. Pronto Bingen is in excellent fettle at present, ainl he may be expected to race well, and Dusoliiia has improved sinco running third at Oarnaru last month. In what looks like being a fast-run race, the finish may bo confined to Gold Tinge. Nona Bingen, and Dusolinu.

War Paint may be too slow a beginner for a race of this description, but she must bo considered. Some Guy is not far from his best, find Country King pleased in hifs. traifiiug work yesterday morning, but ho is anything but reliable. They are not a particularly strong lot, and John Jinks. Country King, and War Paint in ay bo most prominent when the post is reached.
