RANGIORA. The general meeting of the congregation of the Rangiora Methodist circuit was held in the Methodist schoolroom on Wednesday evening to consider arrangements for holding the annual flower show, bazaar, and luncheon. There was a largo attendance, the Rev. S. Henderson presiding. ... J The secretary, in presenting his an- j nual report and balance-ssheet, saiu f the last flower show and bazaar was a success, although the financial results were considerably below the previous year's. On Tuesday morning 14 degrees of frost were registered, and on Wednes--day 11 degrees. . Mr 'R. McGillivray, of the Agricultural Department, arrived in Kaikoura on Wednesday, to investigate matters relative to the Government's small farm scheme. He returned to Chnstchurch on Thursday. Air J. Griffiths, stock inspector, will be the local organiser in connexion with the scheme. Mr Lance Workman, who is on the staff of the Wellington Broadcasting Station, is at present spending a holiday with his parents in Kaikoura. Tho quarterly summoned meeting ot the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge, Kaikoura, was held on Tuesday evening, the N.G., Bro. V. Chapman, presiding. CHEVIOT. • An enjoyable jkitehen afternoon was spent at tho resident-® of Mrs G. Lrown, "Dunbarton," Cheviot, in honour of Miss S. MacKay, whose marriage will take place shortly. Iheie were a large number of guests present. Competitions were won by Mrs Honeybone, Mrs J. Williams, Misses I. M. Orchard, and G. Morgan. During the ! afternoon items were contributed by | Mrs A. Elliott (song), Miss F. M. Orchard (recitation), and Miss G. Morgan (piano selections). A meeting of the Cheviot Collie Club was held in the Public Hall on Tuesday evening. The president, Mr J. L. LEITHFIELD. The half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Leithfield Lodge of Oddfellows was held on Saturday. Bro. W. Jamieson presided. The election of officers resulted as follows;—Bro. S. Thompson, N.G., A. Dimocks, V.G., E.S. Bro. C. Lewis, lecture master. Past-Graud Bro. G. Robertson installed the newly-elected officers. HORORATA. The following are the meteorological observations as recorded by Mr G. L. Iljght, Hororata, Cor May, 1932: Ifain fell on ten days, the heaviest fall (63 points) being on the 23rd. The total rainfall for the month was 301 points, and for May, 1931, 164 points. Eighteen frosts were recorded during the month, the most severe being 14 degrees on the 27th. McGillivray, of the Agricultural Department, gave an address on varied subjects, including the Department's experiments' with manure, Hawke's Bay ryegrass, Montgomery clover, a proposed irrigation scheme for Canterbury, and small farmers for the unemployed. report ou any lands available for small holdings and the suitability of any applicants for holdings. During the evening Mr 11. Tallott, ou bchaif of the branch, presented the secretary, Mr Arthur Gartery, with a gold watch for past services and also spoke of the excellent manner in which he had carried out his duties. Mr Gartery suitably replied. DARFIELD. A pleasant evening was recently spent, at Mr ami Mrs If. S. Williams's residence, when a surprise party called at their home. During the evening games, competitions, and dancing were enjoyed by those present, and musical items were given by Misses It. and D. Cullen.
