WATER SUPPLY.
WAIMAKARIRI-ASHLEY BOARD MEETS. The monthly meeting of the Wai-makariri-Ashley Water Supply Board was held on Monday. Present —Messrs Jas. Brown (chairman), J. F. Dawson, George Wayl.ind, and John Waller. The monthly report'showed ..that one gang of relief workers was engaged in taking down an overhanging shingle bank alongside the main" race at Brown's Rock. Three other gangs were employed *in widening the mam race in different parts of the district. The culvert on the corner by the West Eyreton Hall had been lengthened and made safe for traffic. The race at Tipping's road had been diverted under the railway cattle stop, which had proved an advantage. It was decided to construct a bywash to empty into the new cut at Collier's creek, near the big syphon carrying the main race at Springbank, so as to lessen the chances of flooding on Mr J. Smith's property. It was resolved to erect white concrete posts at the ends of road culverts so as to give warning to motorists at night time. The secretary was instructed to have a supply made at the Board's yard as soon as possible. It was decided to turn the water off at Brown's Rock on three occasions, for the winter fence cutting. Mr Waller reported that he and the secretary had. been over the ground for tho proposed new race at Fernside leading out .to the. orchards near the Ashley river, and.it was found that by syphoning two gullies it would be possible to serve a lot of. extra country which was badly in need of a supply of water. • The secretary waa, instructed to get out the particulars of an old survey and have, the forms filled in by those requiring water. - Accounts amounting to £266 10s 5d were, passed . f<?r payment.
