PARTIES IN NEW SOUTH [ WALES. i ANTI-LABOUR FORCES. ■ SYDNEY,- May 19The terms uf the unity pact between the United Australia Party and the United Country Party disclose that the Country Party has agreed to withdraw all its official candidates from the country seats at present held by United Australia Party members, thus ending a dispute of long standing. Drummond) has annulled the direction of tho Lang Government that employees in the Education Department should become trade unionists. The Minister for Labour and Industry, Mr J. M. Dunningham, has returned from Canberra after interviewing Mr J. A. Lyons (Prime Minister) with regard to unemployment relief. He stated that 30,000 men will be employed on reproductive works -almost immediately, and the sum of £600,000 will be available for relief works. AGENT-GENERAL. COMMENT ON CABINET'S INSTRUCTIONS. LONDON, May 18. The "Daily ' Herald's'' diplomatic correspondent says that Mr B. S. B. Stevens's action in publicly rebuking Mr A. C. Willis (New South Wales Agont-General) has aroused much comment, and it is ■ generally considered that tho publication of Mr Stevens's cable without awaiting Mr Willis's reply, was a deliberate affront, made in the hope of provoking Mr Willis to resign. Mr Willis Explains. Mr A, C. Willis has cabled a reply to the Premier, Mr Stevens, but declines to disclose its contents. In a Press statement Mr Willis said he regarded Mr Stevens's cable merely as notification of the Ministry's policy, on which he was not prepared to comment. | "Mr Lang's instructions to me have never gone boyond a request for time to pay. Braund and Co.'s store, Armidalc. Sydney detectives have left.to investigate the fire. HOTELS AT CANBERRA. HEAVY LOSSES RECORDED. CANBERRA, May 12. Further illuminating figures regarding tho losses which continue to accrue on tho two palatial hotels in tho Federal Capital -Territory wero quoted in the House of Representatives. It was shown that for the year ended June 30th, 1931, the deficit against the Hotel Canberra was £3537, and that the loss incurred by the Hotel Kurrajong was £737. These figures do not include interest on capital, depreciation, maintenance, and rates. Three other hotels —the Acton, Wellington, and Ainslie—have been closed for some time owing to lack of patronage, and in regard to these the losses for the twelve months mentioned made up of interest, caretaking, rates, and other charges, were:—Hotel Acton, £7989; Hotel Wellington, £3333; Hotel Ainslie, £3566. 1 The capital costs of the various hotels were *as i'oUow-c—Canberra, £100,098; Kurrajong, £91,718; Ac-ton. £84,281; Wellington, £3-5,355; Ainslie, £37,151.
