FIRES.
♦ • HOUSE DESTROYED. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a dwelling siJtuated in the Reserve, Fairlie, owned and occupied by Mrs Tanner, was completely destroyed by fire. Mrs Tanner was awakened by smoke, and had only time to wake a j boy sleeping in another room and escape with a few clothes. The fiouse and contents were insured in the State Fire Office, the house for £4OO and the contents for £2OO. ' FARM IMPLEMENTS DESTROYED. . A large granary and implement shed, a threshing mill, ' a new tractor, a binder, and sundry farr tools were destroyed by fire" on the property of Mr A. H. Read (Willowby) at 4 a.m. yesterday: A motor-car owned by Mr Read was'badly, damaged. When Mr Read was awakened by the fire the mill and the motor-oar were burning, but with assistance he dragged the car into the open. The seat of the fire appeared to be in the mill, which was owned by Messrs P: D. Campbell and W. Kellahan, of Ashburion, and h- 1 nQt been in use for the, past month. The insurances ' were as fpllows: Building £2OO, tractor. £250, oar £225, binder £7O. Mr Read lost 15 sacks of cocksfoot and 12 sacks of oats.
