MOLLISON AND MISS JOHNSON.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED IN LONDON.

Their engagement is announced in "The Times." Mr Mollison declared: It is quite true that Amy and I are engaged. I cannot tell you more at present. Miss Amy Johnson was born at Hull in 1908. She took the B.A. degree at Sheffield University, after which she worked in a London solicitor's office. She joined tho London Aeroplane Club, and learned to fly. In May, 1930, she flew alone from England to Darwin, traversing 9960 miles in 19 days. Last year she flew from London to Tokyo, via Siberia, in 10$ days, beating by a few hours the light aeroplane record flight between the two cities made by Seiji Yoshihara, the Japanese airman. Mr J. A. Mollison, the Scottish airman, is 27 years of age. When 18 years old he joined the • Royal Air Force, and served for five years in England and India. He went to Australia in 1928, and became instructor to the Aero Club at Adelaide. Early in 1930 he served as a pilot on the Mel-bourne-Sydney air route. After a holiday visit to England in 1931 he returned to Australia, and made plans for a record flight to Great Britain. This he accomplished, flying from Darwin to London in 8 days 22 hours, 25 minutes, thus beating his friend, C. W. Scott's record by more than two days. In March last lie flew from London to Capetown in the record time of 4 days 17 hours 19 minutes.
