HARRIERS.

'VARSITY CLUB. About thirty-five members of the 'Varsity Harrier Club were the guests of Mr J, G. D. Ward, president of the Canterbury Collego Students' Association, at a run from Sir Cyril Ward's North Beach residence. A course of about five miles was followed over excellent harrier country. N. W. Mulvev and A. 'J'. Anderson were the trail-layers. Details are: Fust Puck—A. 11.I 1 . Thomson 1, J. B. Wilson 2, W. E. Parrott 3. Intermediate Pack—ls. A. Simpson 1, H. Waymouth 2, G. K. Simpson 3. Slow Pack—G. M. Tilren 1, J. H. Smith 2, 11. Buckett 3. At the conclusion o£ the run afternoon tea, was served by Misses M. liine, A. Eterlet, B. Lucas, B. Humrr, and Ward. The captain, Mr L. S. B,imbery, thanked Mr Ward and the lady helpers lor their hospitality. Next, week the club will run from liollrston House, when Rollcston House members will act as Hosts. BAPTIST CLUB. The opening- run for the 3932 season was conducted from the Colombo Street Baptist Church. Members and friends were the gicests of the president (Mr S. T. Burnett). Among those present were Mrs G. A. Dawson, llcv. L. A. North, Messrs E. G. lveats and K. 0. Archer. In declaring the season open, Mr Barnett said he hoped that the large attendance would be the forerunner of the best season the club has yet had. ' Following the opening ceremony, a largo field 6cl out to follow a 4£ miles course, which was ably set by C. F. Jones alul C. ?.f. Dawson. The I rail led along Colombo street to the. Heathcote river, thence to the right, following the river for approximately half a mile, round the foot of the Cashmere Hills, up over a spur on to Ilackthornc road, down the hill to Barrington street and across paddocks until it struck the . opposite bank of the river,'then along the river-bank for a short distance, through scrub and mud-holes to strike the tram-line again nbout u mile from home. Here L. O. Fulford and A. D. Parle set a very fast, pace for tho run-in. The field was divided id)o three packs, and results were as follows: Slow Pack —K. Bissefc I, S. T. Barnett 2, M. Montgomery 3. Intermediate Pack—M. F. Foate 1, E. J. Walker 2, K. White 3. Fast Pack—l,. C. Fulford 1, A. D. Park 2, .T. Watson 3. Tho run win notable, for the largo number of new members who all performed creditably. In the fast pack, L. C. Fulford showed excellent form along with A. 1). Park and K. C. Holmes, but the pace was too hot for the first run of the season. C. F. Jones and C. M. Dawson, after laying tho trail, )at'. the course a second time, with the. fast pack. After the run the members and friends were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs S. T. Barnett. The club captain, Mr M. D. Watts, returned a vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Barnatt. Next Saturday's' run will be from the lesidence of Mr and Mrs T. E. Dencrh, 5 Chancellor street, North Richmond. The run will commence at 2.30 p.m.' sharp. PRESBYTERIAN CLUB. The Presbyterian Club held' the first invitation run of its sixth season as the quests of Mis J. Brunton,' at 37 Bridge street, South Brighton. Prior to the run, [ the president (the Rev. A. McNenr) declared j the season open. The trail, laid by T. I Anderson and A. Blythe, led rip to and across [ tha New Brighton tram bridge io Breezo's load, and baok to Bridge street via the South Brighton bridge. The results of the run-in were: Slow Pack—J. Koller 1, C. Comber 2, T. Smith 3. Medium Pack—W. Bretfell 1, T. Christie 2, B. Hamilton 3. Fast Pack—C. Gordon 1, F. Mackley 2, J. Searing 3. The Bev.' A. McNenr, on behalf of the members who attended, thanked the host and hostess for tho invitation and afternoon tea supplied. An interesting feature of tho run was the exhibition of club trophies and cups and the Anderson team's race banner. ANGLICAN CLUB. The opening run for the season of the Angli can Harriers Club was held on Saturday from St. James's Church, Lower Riccarton, at the invitation of the club's president, the Rev. R. de Lambert. A short trail of about four miles was laid by C. 'ii. Whyte and R. V. Milne, and the runs-in of the two packs resulted: — Fast Pack—H. O. Savage 1, S. V. Ellis 2, H. G. Holmes 3. Slow Pack—W. G. Tulloch 1, G. L. Savage and J. N. Harris 2 (equal). The club captain (H. G. Holmes) thanked the hosts, especially Mrs de Lambert', and introduced a visitor, Mr C. CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. The weekly run of the Christchurch Harrier Club was held on Saturday afternoon from the Pier Tea Rooms, New Brighton. Tho runners were the guests of the Christchurch Harrier Club committee. Knight, Buckley, and Paul laid a good trail over a distance of five miles. Next week's run will be held from St. Ninian's Presbyterian Church, Riccarton, at 2.45 p.m. METHODIST CLUB. More than 20 members met for 1 the first club run of the year on Saturday, and the season was declared open by the president, Mr Mclndoe. L. Smith and K. Mclndoe laid an inteiesting five-mile trail through tho Shirley-Marshland-St. Albans districts.
