LEPERS IN REVOLT.
UNUSUAL SPANISH INCIDENT, (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATIOH— BT ELSCTBIC TSU.GBAPH—COPYRIGHT ) (Received March 25tb, 5.5 p.m.) MADEID, March 24. ■. A straDge revolt occurred at Fontilles near Denia, where the lepers, forcibly ejecting the nuns who tended them 'at the sanatorium, declared their intention of forming a free colony of their own. Many walked to neighbouring villages, kissing ami hugging all wnom they met. The police and the inhabitants eventually took them all back to' the institution.'
The Christchurch Workingmen's Club has spent between £SOO and £6OO on labour and material in connexion with a general. overhaul and renovation of the Club's premises. The men engaged on the work are unemployed members of the Club who have been given,. some one day, .others two or three days' work weekly. Much of the work done has been that of re-roofirig parts of tne building. A considerable amount of painting and plastering has been done. As many as 27 men have been at work on-one day; the average has been 14 or 15; and between 40 and 50 men have been employed at different periods.
