Black Duke is entitled to his place by his consistent roeord and to the fact tlint ho was beaten bv a neck only by Straighteourse ii» the race twelve months ago with 8-10 on his back. Full Feather will have to be considered it' tho track bo soft. In his previous raco to this, in the big handicap at Dunedin on the second day, ho would have disputed the finish with Hivl Son and The Smuggler but for running off the track at the straight entrance. Ked Racer has only to reproduce his Duuodiu form to be a good proposition, hut ho failed to gain a place at Cromwell last week. _ RanelagTi is not fancied over the distance, and will be better served later in the day. Ttamo is tho form horse, and with a pound less than tho weight he carried in the Peninsula Cup his chance looks very hopeful. For periods the straight from the three furlongs mark was-clear, but the fog only occasionally lifted along the back stretch. The plough was slower thau yesterday, or on Saturday.
