WELLINGTON R.C.

AUTUMN MEETING. PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY

The Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting will open at Trentham to-day. The fields are not as well filled as is usually the case on the first clay of a Trentham fixture, "but the material offering should ensure some hiuh-elas.s racing. Riccarton stables are fairly strongly represented and a good share of the honours should once more come south. The programme is as follows :—■ 12.2 p.m.— RIMU HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP, Of 160 sovs. Ono mile and a quarter. st. lb. St. 11). Landmark ..11 2 .Air Laddie 9 11 Blacksmith 10 5 Sailor's Love 9 8 Conjurer 11. 10 1 Flower .. 9 4 Tavagona .. 912 Miss Hastings 9 2 The opening event, the Rimu Highweight Handicap, lias drawn an evenlybalanced field and the best supported may be Taragona, Blacksmith, and Sailor's Love. 12.42 p.m.— TRIAL PLATE, 0i 160 sovs. Weight 8-0. One mile and Unco-quarters. Chief Clerk Sailing Coy The Mirror Morrath Lady Noel Mullaboden " Kalmuk Tho poorest field Cor some years wilt parade in tho Trial Plate and investors will probably extend most support to Morrath, Kalmuk, and Chief Clerk. 1.32 p.m.— NEW ZEALAND ST. The long established Thompson Handicap has attracted a high-class field, and in the absence of an outstanding candidate there will be a keen contest for favouritism. All /the candidates •have raced in various parts during the past coupte of months and racegoers nave had every chanoe to become acquainted with the form of each. There Has been a tendency since the acceptances appeared of snaking Chrysology and Cricket Bat the favourite selections, and this pair will probably hold their positions on the machine. Gay Crest has not been discussed to any extent, but with any fortune in the,, draw he is capable of being on hand* at the finish. , Hunting Cry would only require to be back to his best to keep the field busy, while Cadlsnd has proved himself a solid weight-carrier. Of the remainder, Arrow Lad, Jaloux, Awaken, and Shatter make most appeal in a very even division, but the final summing-up may be in favour of Cricket Bat. Chrysology, and Gay Crest.

3.42 p.m.— ■' HACK HANDICAP, Of fso sovs. One mite. I st. lb. st. lb. Joie de Val 9 0 Knrthquake 7 H Landmark .. 8 11 Lyrical 7 10 Winsome I'airway .. 7 9 Hind 8 3 In Vain ... 7 4 Red Sun .. 7 .13' Lady Ronald 7 0 Quality is not strongly represented in tlie Silverstream Hack Handicap, but a few of the contestants are capable of reeling off a fast mile. Winsome Hind is entitled to be .favourite on the strength of her, recent track work, while Azalea has only to race up to her'recent efforts over a mil© and a quarter to have the field in trouble throughout. Landmark will probably be reserved, and if so will be in demand, while Joie de Val will carry a lot of Trentham support. Winsome Hind, Azalea, and Landmark should make the best showing. 4.27 p.m.— RAILWAY HANDICAP, ■ Of 250 sovs. Six furlongs. st. lb. st. lb. Karapoti .. !) 8 Huntingdon 711 Lady Quex 9 5 Arvada .. 7 7 Cimabue .. 9 2 Chief Cook 7 5 Autopay .. 9 0 Tobacco Land 7 5 Silvermine 8 7 Grecian Golden Wings 8 6 Prince 7 0 The Railway Handicap will produce a smart field of sprinters and on a good track a fast-run race should be recorded. Huntingdon is' an Unlikely starter. Speculation is certain to take a wide 'range arid the ultimate favourite division may be confined to Lady Quex, Golden Wings, and Grecian Prince. 5.12' p.m.— TINAKORI HACK HANDICAP, Of 160 sovs. - Six furlongs. st. lb. st. lb. The Quorn 9 0 Kminent .. 7 6 St. Roger .. 8 4 Xormanby .. 7 6 Miladi . . 8 1 Waratali . . 7 2 Royal Bengal 712 White Squall 7 0 Weatherstcp 7 8 Pass On .. 7 0 Merry Peel 7 8 The concluding event, tlic Tinakon Hack Handicap, will probably be responsible for The Quorn being sent out a short-priced favourite and Miladi and -Merry Peel .will also be in demand.
