THE KINDERGARTENS.

TEACHERS RECEIVE NOTICE. "We'have unfortunately been forced to give notice to all the kindergarten, teachers in Christchureh, telling them that their services will not be required further and that they had better look for other employment," stated Mrs A. i Peppier, a member of the Christchureh" Free Kindergarten Association to a representative of The Press yesterday. Mrs Peppier said that the action had been taken in consequence of the with-, drawal of State aid from the movement, it being found quite impossible to carry on the work as at present under the new conditions. While the whole of the teachers employed in kindergarten work had been given notice of dismissal, it was likely, however, thata certain number of them w r ould have their services retained, this being a matter for consideration; The position in which the Association found itself would be realised when she stated that whereas the weekly donation from parents whose children attended the kindergarten at Sydenham amounted to about 4d, it cost about 3s a child to cany on. The movement was being given a big set back as a result of the withdrawal of financial assistance from the Government and a most serious state of affairs had arisen, which was the more noticeable in view of the fact that the Association had very recently opened the new Selwyn Kindergarten. The whole question would be discussed at the next meeting of the Association.
