« —— ■■■,-■ STILL SERIOUSLY ILL. Three men injured in accidents dur- I ing the week-end are still seriously iU | at tlie Christchurch Public Hospital. They are P. Lunu, a dirt-track rider, who crashed at the Monica Park speedway on Saturday evening, T. Eastgate, who was injured in a motor-cycle accident, and L. Barnes, who fell down a cliff at the Mount White Station near Cass, while mustering on Saturday morning. "MAORI INJURED IN LORRY ACCIDENT. (PRESS A.S3OCIATION TELEGRAM.) HASTINGS, January 18. A Maori named Hi Kaurauria, of Oringi, near Dannevirke, met with a serious accident while driving a lorry down the Te Aute hill on the way from Dannevirke towards Hastings this afternoon. . The lorry sl»idded in loose shingle and went over a bank, turning over several times. Kaurauria, who was by himself, managed to scramble out just before the lorry caught fire. He was found by another motorist on the way to Palmerston North, who first noticed the smoke and then saw the victim lying beside the lorry. He was unconscious and when medical assistance came he was found to have several broken ribs, one of which had penetrated a lung. His condition to-night was as well as could be expected under the circumstances.
