Demonstrations by a group of two thousand "hunger marchers," recruited throughout the United States to demand Government employment guaiantees, resulted in little excitement, di;e to their cordial reception by the metropolitan police, who permitted the marchers to say what they wished and carry what banners they desired. They offered food and coffee and other comforts, aided the parade, and removed all interest in tho agitation, only refusing entrance to White Mouse and the Capital, about which a group passed some time arguing and shouting threats at the "capitalistic" Government. The demonstrators then moved to tho offices of tho American Federation of Labour, where they gained entrance, only to receivo a scathing rebuke from Mr William Green, who asserted that tlicy were dupes of Communist leaders.
