MEETING OF CENTRE. CARNIVALS FOR JANUARY. Mr T. H. Patton presided at a meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last evening! Advice was received from the North Canterbury Club that it could not yet see its way clear for affiliation with the Centre. The Beckenham Club wrote stating that the present charges would prohibit their affiliation with tho Centre, and it was* decided that the New Zealand Council ,be approached and a remission of half the feet be suggested if the Centre would do the same. Inter-Olub Competition. A suggestion that the Centre should : institute a series of inter-club carnivals to bo held on Saturdays in January, in order to help swimmers in competition over the early part of the season, was made by Mr .'D.' H. Symes, and after discussion • a motion embodying this proposal was carried unanimously. ' Xn order to even up the competition the weaker clubs will be grouped by the executive of the Centre with the three major clubs— East Christchurch, United, and Elmwood. The first of the carnivals will be held on. January Bth. Some of the events on each will be on a handicap, and others on a scratch basis.
