FAILURE OF MILITANT SECTION. (Received December Bth, 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 8. The militant section of the Seamen's Union to-day made an unsuccessful attempt to declare all vessels belonging to the Union Steam Ship Company "black" owing to the company's refusal to dismiss the Koranui's crew. Risks of infection incurred by hospital nurses wore referred to before the Workers' Compensation Commission, when an award was made in/ favour of Diana Ferguson Breckenridge, a young nurse, who was found to have contracted pulmonary tuberculosis while nursing at tho Coast Hospital Auxiliary between April and July, 1928. Slio was awarded £2 10s 8d a week from November 23rd, 1930, to continue during total or partial incapacity, with £25 medical expenses, £25 hos-, pital expeiises, and "costs' on tKe highest scale. ! Palmer (medical superintendent at Waterfall Sanitarium) stated, on the other hand, that during his 22 years at the sanitarium only four nursee had been incapacitated through pulmonary tuberculosis, and in two of those cases, infection could be definitely dissociated from » their employment.
