THEATRE ROYAL. "MAN OF THE WORLD" AND "CITY# STREETS." William Powell achieves the greatest triumph o£ his distinguished career on the talking screen m "Man o£ the World, the main feature of the programme at the Theatre Iloyal this week. The other picture showing is "City Streets," a dramatic romance with Gary Cooper in the leading part. The two pictures offer an exceptionally iine entertainment. William .Powell is well known to picturegotra ot Chmtchurch, and in the past he has made himsell a lavourite and has won a great reputation. Never before, however, has ha acted ito dramatically or interpreted his part ao ably. "Man of the World" will to remembered for .the acting of Powell, if for no other reason. Carole Lombard, as the girl who captures Powell's heart, has » somewhat difficult part to fill, but her acting gives no cause for criticism. Powell is seen first as a blackmailer in Paris. Tha rich tourists who visit the city are his victims, and on them he preys mercilessly. Slowly, however, as. he comes under the influence of the girl, he is prepared to sacrifice everything for her sake. All the members 01 the cast carry out their duties, whether targo or small, in an exceedingly oapahle manner, making the picture an excellent enterto uiment. Quick action and an absorbing story make "City Streets" a fine drama, ft offers also a romance, interwoven with "'double-croes-'ngs," and gang warfare. Eventually, howover, tha lovers are able to escape from gangland, and to carry on their romance if. less exciting but safer places.
