COUNTY COUNCILS

TAWERA. At the monthly meeting of the Tawera County Council there were present: Crs. H. A. Millar W. M. "Williams, R. Milliken, I). Doody, K. M. Johnson, and J. K. McAlpine. The Main Highways Board advised that the Council's contribution towards the cost of niaintenance of the West Coast road had been reduced from £3OO to £250 per annum. The Malvern Power Board wrote suggesting that, in connexion with the proposed representations to be made to the Government with a view to securing a reduction in the price of current to rural supply authorities, a preliminary conference of the local bodies interested be held in order fully to discuss the matter and appoint a deputation to meet the Minister. Cr. Doody was appointed the Council's delegate. As the practice of graiing stock on the reads was increasing beyond all reasonable limits,! the question of the necessity for taking action in the matter was discussed. It was resolved that a ranger be appointed and that proceedings be taken against the owners of all stock impounded. It was reported that the amount of county and Power Board rates outstanding for tho last financial year was considerable, and it was decided to issue a final notice to those ratepayers who were in arrears. WAIPARA. At tho monthly meeting of the Waipara County Council those present were: Crs. N. I>. Campbell (chairman), H. E. Fincbam, A. T. Allan, J. G. Whyte.W. K. McAlpine, and J. Quigley. A vote of sympathy was passed to the relatives of Mr J. K. Forrester, members standing. Correspondence was received from the Amuri, Cheviot, and Kowai Counties in reference to the appointment of a group traffic inspector. The clerk submitted a schedule of duties and an estimate of the cost, a copy of which was to be forwarded to the respective counties. It waß decided to hold a conference at Waikari on December 14th to discusß the matter. A deputation, consisting of Messrs P. 11. Climie and W. Bromley, members of the Unemployment Board, attended Hie meeting to discuss various schemes in connexion with tho work of the Unemployment Board. The chairman thanked the members for the information supplied. Information was received that an additional subsidy on rates would be allowed on the understanding that a 12J per cent, rebate was allowed on rates paid by March 31st.
