BUSINESS FOR TO-NIGHT'S MEETING. - Included in the business to •fiome before the meeting of tlie Christchurcb City Council, adjourned from November 30th till to-night, is consideration of the motions of which Cr. A. E. Armstrong gave notice some time ago. They are as follows: (1) "Owing to the extreme distress amojig working classes in the City, as the result of unemployment and parttime employment, the Council recognises that it is its duty to employ as many men as possible to relieve distress. The Council therefore decides to establish a maximum salary of £SOO per annum for all officers in its employ, the savings thereby to be spent in the employment of additional permanent men." (2) "That it be an instruction to the Electricity Department to use the local-ly-manufactured electric range for cooking demonstrations alternately with the Canadian range, which is at present used exclusively in the demonstrating room." (3) "That all relief works carried out under the supervision of the Ghristchurch City Council be paid for at trade union rate of wages." Other matters to be discussed include: Consideration of proposal for the sale of a reserve in Rhodes street. Tenders for erection of conveniences in St. James's, Beckenham, and Malvern Parks and at Sydenham Cemetery. Termination of present agreement for lease of Civic Theatre for pictures, and consideration of calling for tenders for future lettings. Application for permission to erect several hoardings in the City. Reports from Works Committee regarding unemployment relief work. By-Laws Committee's report regarding cancellation, of a license of one of the dance halls in the City. . Tenders for heating plant for Ladies' Eest Room. Tenders for lift for Ladies' Eest Room. Tenders for meters and automatic recorder for May'B road pumping station.
