GALA AT OURUHIA.

__—« —:— - A SUCCESSFUL DAY. ' The Ouruhia school grounds - presented a gay appoaranco at the opening "on Saturday by Mr B. W. Hawke, M.P.,' of the bazaar and gala in aid of Ouruhia Park, Mr Hawke congratulated {he organisers of the gala upon their well-stocked stalls, and interesting out- , door attractions. Mr 5 W. P. Spencer, chuirmun of the Park Committee, briefly welcomed visitors to the gala, and thanked tho committee for the zeal which had resulted in the display. Ho thanked Mr Hawke for his attendance, and for his interest in the Park. • / The gaily-decorated stalls in the bazaar section were well patronised throughout the day, and "a'very satisfactory clearance of goods resulted; The various sports were well organsied, tlio events , being broadcasted from lime to time. Much interest was taken in the buck-jumping competition, in the musical stalls, and in a fine display of pony jumping by Master W. Black.- • Throughout the afternoon music by wireless enlivened the proceedings." The Gala Committee »Te . indebted to Mr Shipley, who provided the-wireless for the day. In the evening a successful dance was held in tho schoolroom, and as tho school v/as-'crowded, the funds benefited considerably. Messrs \V. Haysall and Niol Ashby acted as M.C.'s for the dance, while excellent music was supplied by Mr Miller (piano), and C. Vaughan (saxophone). Gatekeepers for the gala were Messrs E. A. Stead and L. Oade. Ground Btewards were Messrs W. P. Spencer, J. Brown, H. MacMillan. Mr MacMillan, secretary of the Park Committee, announced the results of the various competitions as follows: Buck-jumping, V. and 11. Giles; sheep-guess-nig, H. MacMillan; doll, E. Clelland; cake. J. Doolan; stepping competition (men), .T. Lange; stepping competition (women), V. Chenery; goose, J. Murfitt; potatoes, Mrs J. Lange. The following were in charge of the stalls and side-shows:—Work stall, Mesdames Hnrris and MacMillan; fancy stall, Mrs E. A. Stead and Miss Rgna. MacMillan; novelties, Masses Stsere and Wilson; cake iltall, Mesdames Spencer and Steere; lucky' packets, Misses 3. Dunlop and J. MacMillan; sweets, Mrs J. Bfown, Miss Rcrq Cftde; ico-crc&in, Mrs Ashby, Miss V. Chenery; afternoon tearooms, Mesdatneß Cade and Chenery; produce, Messrs Jarden and F. Dunlop; Aunt, Sally' f r„ H ' A. Bawb.er; coconut shy, Mr H. MacMillan ; stopping competition, Norman Ashby; musical stalls, Mr Geotge Ashby; buck-jump-nl(?' J T Ir J- Johns; shOOtins gallery, L. Stead and J.
