CRICKET GROUNDS

FINANCING SCHEME DISCUSSED. DELEGATES REJECT MOTION. The matter of tlie financing o£cricket grounds was the subject of discussion at a meeting of delegates to the Canterbury Cricket Association on Saturday evening. Mr W. H. Winsor presided. Mr W. L. King moved that the following motion passed at a meeting of delegates in February should be rescinded: "That the scheme as set out in the schedule be adopted for the 1931-32 season." The Hagley Park clubs were eight wickets short in Ihe number they should provide, said Mr King. The four Hagley clubs paid £256 annually, £420 would be received there, and as maintenance would be about £3OO the balance of £l2O seemed to show that these clubs should find further wickets. The poorer clubs, said Mr King, should not be called on. Clubs should provide one wicket for every two teams,,and the Hagley Park clubs should provide their wickets and pay for them like other clubs. The clubs lying to the east of the City could not afford to pay out any more to meet the'cost of. wickets. - Mr P. A. Jarrett said that Mr King's figures relating "to Hagley Park revenue were misleading. Expenses, said Mr .Tarrett, amounted to over £4OO, -and the small balance' was always used in ground improvements. The Hagley Park clubs had £SOO worth of plant to keep in repair, while the Lancaster Park clubs had machinery and plant supplied by /the Board of Control. The original motion had been passed with the idea of wiping out inequalities that existed at the time, wheteas Mr King apparently wanteds to retain that ineaualitv . Mr W. J. V. Hamilton said that the Sydenham Club realised that the schedule, would mean a certain amount of sacrifice, but they were prepared td give it a trial. It was stated by several delegates that any club finding it difficult to pay would receive the co-operation and aid of all cricketers in. any scheme to raise money. ■ Mr C. S. Thompson stated . that S n w y^ 31le r ar y- The matter had been discussed by delegates until they were tired of discussing. it.
