One of the most, gruesome murders, for which marital jealousy was response, is ihat of a young photographer, Lcuis Bruhet, allegedly 'the lover oi Madame Monvault. the wife of a nightwatchman. , ■ Brunet disappeared lor several days, nnd Monvault is reported to have made •,i statement to the police that he fulfilled a threat to wrap - Brunet m an iron netting, attach an iron weight to bis neck, and throw him into the Seine. Rene a supposed accpmphce, told a sensational story of the torturing of Brunet for 20 minutes before he was strangled fco death with a Plisset, handcuffed, ginded the police to the spot on the bank of. the Seine, and stood watching while a diver descended and found in the mud Brunet's body, resembling a grotesque mummy, encased in the netting.
