ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE.

- —♦ ' . , WORK OF WEEK. : At 5 p.m. yesterday ■ the. Si. John; JTree Ambulance had responded, to calls for the . week—sail, but four ?of which- required transport to hospital. 1 The greatest number of calls received on any one day was 16, on Saturday —this constituting a record pvef the past twelve months. Members, of the Ohristchurch RailWay Ambulance Division met at the railway social hall, in. Carlyle Btreet, on Mpndtty eyeninig. J Mr F. S. Bonnington, acting superintendent, presided oyer a good attendance, and after. the inspection, Mr JSnidall gav'e > an address on transport. At tho close of the meeting, Mr Bonnihgtori detailed members for publio duty on various stations, during the week. First aid was.given to 47 cases ftiul one was transported to hospital. •• • The No. 3 Ambulance Division paraded* in the Brigade rooms on Thursday evening. After the inspection, taken by r Superintendent F. Afehworth, Miss Small and Miss Gough, nursing sisters from the. Beckenham Nursing Division, gave a demonstration on roller bandaging. At the close of-, the meeting a vote of thanks was accorded the visitors. , ;

Members of the Christchurch Ambulance met at the Brigade rooms on Wednesday evening. Superintendent W. Wootton presided over, a good attendance. and after the inspection;, several ambulance men were detailed to patrol the , Square, where crowds had assembled on account of the election. Dressing stations were also established in the offices of. The Press and ' the "Christchurch Time?." * Nursing Diviaionß. Members of the Christchurch Nursing Division met on Monday evening in the Brigade rooms. Mrs Bell, lady superintendent, presided and after the inspection arranged public duty for the week on the St. John Free Ambulance'. Mrs Fricker, lady corps ■ superintendent, was also and the work of the evening took the form of roller bandaging and a "question bee," in which a profitable hour was spent.. The cadeta attached to this division were also on parade under the supervision of Mies Carnie, who took them in first aid work. * , * * Members and Cadets of the No. l Girl Guide Nursing Division met on 'Tuesday evening at the Brigade rooms. Miss G. Donaldson presided and a good attendance was recorded. The work of the evening consisted of roller bandaging, and demonstrations were given in bed-making—various methods of sheetchanging being practised by the, members. Dr. Helmore, divisional surgeon, was also present and gave the fourth lecture on "Home Nursing." Before dismissing the parades public duties were arranged for the St. John Free Ambulance. » » * The usual meeting of the Selwyn Nursing Division was held in the Brigade rooms on Tuesday evening. Mrs Angus,- 1 ady superi ntendent, presided over a good attendance, and after inspection public duty was arranged j° r the St, John" Free Ambulance. The work of the evening was roller and triangular bandaging, which was inspected by the divisional surgeon, DrJessie Scott. Officers and. members were complimented bv Dr. Scott on the work they had dona during the year and also on the increase of members to the division, This being her last visit for the year, sh* wished them all the compliments of the season. • * » The Lyttelton Nursing Division held their weekly parade in the Lyttelton Building Society's rooms. General Notes. _ The "Report of the Chief Commissioner of the Brigade Overseas" is just to hand, and it is interesting to note that the officer holding that appoint-, ment is Lieutenaht-Colonel J. L. Sleeman, C.M.G., C.8.E., M.V.0., Knight of Justice,, who was Director of Military Operations in New Zealand before the Great War. As the result of firsthand knowledge. Colonel Sleeman. gives a very comprehensive report on Brigade work in New Zealand, and pays a tribute to the extraordinarily fine work performed during the earthquakes at Napier and Hastings.
