BEEKEEPERS MEET.

PROTEST AGAINST PROPOSED MARKETING ACT. Mr E. G. Woods, secretary. of the South Island Honey Marketing Asso-i ciation, presided over a good attendance of beekeepers, held in Rangiora, on Wednesday evening. The Honey Marketing- Board Bill, as proposed by Mr W. J. Jordan in Parliament, was read, and came in for strong condemnation, and it was unanimously decided to support all efforts ■ to get the proposed Act rejected. The following resolution was carried: "That thig meeting takes strong exception to the proposed Honey Marketing Act, and that the Prime Ministef bo urged to use his influence to hare the Act rejected, as in the opinion of those present at this meeting the Act is .liable to retard the production of honey by reducing the number of beekeepers in New Zealand, and will increase the retail price of honey to the consumer, thereby making honey a luxury instead of. as present, an addition to the public diet. Also, there is enough depression in New Zealand to-day without adding to the same through disorganisation, which must result if this Act is carried." Mr Woods addressed the meeting on the aims and functions of the new South Island Honey Marketing Association, and received . a very attentive bearing and the support of all beekeepers present.
