DOMAINS BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Cliristchurch Domains Board met yesterday. Present: Messrs H. Kitson (chairman), George Harper, F. George, M. K. Lyons, W. T. Poster, S. A. Orchard, W. H. Winsor, R. B. Owen, and the Hon. D. Buddo. Apologies were received from the Mavor (Mr D. G. Sullivan. M.P.), and Messrs A. Freeman and J. F. Scott. An application for the reduction of the yearly rentals of weighing machine, sites to £3 was referred to the Finance Committee with power to act. The report of the Finance Committee, which was considered in committee, was received. Curator's Report. The Curator (Mr James Youngj reported that., the pruning and cultivating of the rose garden had v been com-, pleted; the herbaceous borders had, been cultivated; the shrubbery borders had been reformed; the rc-potting of sub-tropical plants, and the pricking-, out of seedling bedding plants were : well forward; the new rhododendron borders had been formed and planted* with seedlings raised from seeds received from Scotland; the painting of and improvements to the Tea Kiosk were nearing completion; the erection cf fences round the new trenched land, in the south park was in hand; the area' on whk-h potatoes were grown last year would. be ready for sowing in grass next week.; the large trees on the college boundary had been felled and cut into fencing posts and firewood; and general gardening operations were well forward in every department. The report was received. Board's Arbor Day. Air Owen suggested that the Board should have ah Arbor Day, on which members would pla-ut trees in the gardons. It might be held nest Thursday, or on September 12th He had some swamp cypresses (paxodium distJchum) and tome golden ash treos gathered at the Millbrook reserve that ho would bo pleased to give for the purpose of planting. It was decided to thank Mr Oivan for his gift, and to observe next Thursday, September 10th, as Arbor Day. Messrs Kitson, Harper, Owen, and the Hon. D. Buddo were appointed a comrufttee to make arrangements, in conjunction with Mr Yotmg, for the treeplanting.
